Please, Feel Free to Piss in the Garden

This work is aimed at representing the difficult situation faced by a small town in the North of Italy, Arcisate, situated at the border with Switzerland, interested by a huge railway yard designed to connect the two Countries.
Living in a borderland, in itself, brings a twofold meaning, both material - economic promises of the richer counterpart- and immaterial - different mentalities in comparison. According to the intention of local government, a railway should have eased the connection between these two sides. But no one had considered the scar provoked in the landscape and in the inhabitants’ life, even more so when the works in the yard suddenly stopped for political reasons.
In this sequence, evocative images counterbalance Google Earth ones and the domestic environment is explored as well as the external one. Television, railway tickets, 3D renders, advertising road signs are much more symbols of a decline rather than a wealth promise.
Far from being a complaint of a specific situation, this work would like to be a reflection on the interplay between individuals and their surroundings, when these are dramatically changed by human activity.
